Frauennetzwerk Informatik - Why?

The ratio of women in MINT subject (German term for Mathematics, Informatics, natural sciences and Technology) is still rather low. Therefore, we want to get rid of the old stereotype of computer scientists being male only. We want to show that women are equivalent in the MINT field and we want to increase the exchange between anyone interested in ICT over all age levels.

In order to increase the number and ratio of female professors a program was started on national level called "Increasing the equality of chances for women in research and teaching". The goal of this initiative is to bring more women into universities strudying in the fields natural sciences and technology.

In 2004, the Faculty for Computer Science and Mathematics at the Universität Passau established the Frauennetzwerk Informatik (women's computer science network). The goal here is to increase the exchange between all age levels with regards to ICT topics, bringing together girls, women studying computer science, those who do their doctorate in the field and experts in academia and industry. We offer various events to forster information exchange such as Round Tables, lectures, the yearly Girls' Day as well as company visits and continuing education.
